These mods add simple parts of various colors to bypass Spores 3-color limit and create more visually complex creatures. Any 'aquatic stage' mod you may have seen was likely malware. Color mods: Arguably the most popular of the Spore mods, even more so than Dark Injection. To my knowledge, there was no usable code for the aquatic stage left in the game. There are no mods that add significant content or changes gameplay beyond adjusting variables (sa pirate spawn rates, spice harvest amounts, etc). The 'Darkspore' mod, as I suspect you're talking about, only unlocks content that was added to Spore so players could create content for Maxis' Darkspore game in a competition. I've seen exactly one mod that adds one new part, and it replaces an existing part. Unfortunately, the aquatic stage mod got taken down which is why I was asking if there were any others.
